I regularly wear false nails so I was really excited when Elegant Touch offered to give away sets of their new Express Nails for review. There are 24 different designs, ranging from classic reds, through pastels and neons and several different arty designs, including hearts, spots and triangles. I was sent two packs – Bright Purple and Bright Marble. At £7.99 for plain colours and £8.99 for designs, these are a reasonable price but a little more than I usually pay for my nails, so I was intrigued to see if they lived up to their claim of 1 week when applied correctly!

I caught on Twitter a few weeks ago that someone was trying out some false nails from Primark and that they were pretty good. So when I was in there last I picked up a packet to try them out for myself. At £1 for 24 nails I wasn’t expecting the earth but I was really, really surprised. These nails are great.
This is a typically picture heavy post for a set of gig nails. I can’t help showing them off! Since I started using adhesive tabs to stick false nails on rather than glue, I’ve been wearing falsies more often. This particular set of nails has seen quite a few uses – two gigs and a wedding! This is a very simple design by my standards, but I wanted to match this gorgeous dress that I’ve had lots of excuse to wear this month.
I won a set of firework nails from the fabulous Polishious Nails on Twitter last month and instantly earmarked them for my band’s next gig (which happened at The Black Horse in Sidmouth on Saturday 16th November). I love my slightly gothic and glamourous stage alter ego and these were just perfect.
This post is subtitled “why you should not apply or clip false nails in the dark.” I hope you can forgive the slightly dodgy picture quality – all my camera equipment is at my partner’s place and I won’t get it back until the weekend. *sob*
In the meantime, I went to see one of my favourite bands last night in Bristol – Everything Everything. I first saw my total favourite band Post War Years as their support act a few years ago. As an aside – the support act last night, Dutch Uncles, were totally amazing and I highly recommend you check them out!
I rushed these nails. I’d been busy doing other stuff all day and I didn’t leave much time to paint my nails. I wanted to do a bright gradient to match my t shirt and despite my haste, I think I did a pretty good job.
This post is quite picture heavy! If you’ve peeked at my very brief bio on the About Me page then you’ll know that I’m in a band called Pitchbend. We play covers of a great variety of music from ZZ Top to Lady GaGa, all with generally a soul and blues feel. I love dressing up for gigs – I particularly love my very high platform heels! I bought a new pair from New Look recently but I wasn’t brave enough to perform in them at my gig at the weekend. I need more practice in them!
This was my first foray into wearing false nails. I love the idea of false nails – no clean up on your nails, instant length, no sitting around waiting hours for them to dry. Wearing them on the other hand, turns out to be quite difficult. These are “European Short Nails” from eBay, and if you’ve got little nails like me, then they are *not* short. (More after the jump!)
