Quite Hypnotic

I tried to make a gif with a few images of some BCAM nails last week, but couldn’t find a website that I liked. Thankfully, I just have. I totally recommend checking out Gifmaker. Nothing fancy, just upload pictures, set speed, download.

The point of the gif is I wanted to show off how the little hearts change colour with the light, something that you don’t often spot when just viewing multiple images. Props to Roo Beauty for these gorgeous little sequins!

British Nail Bloggers Do BCAM: Day 5

Today is the final day of our Breast Cancer Awareness Month mini-challenge! I hope you’ve enjoyed our designs, and that you’ve learned something – hopefully you’ll never get breast cancer but knowing what to look for and what to do could save your life or that of someone you love.

My design today has a special feature – it is a blue nail, because today I want to focus on something that not everyone knows; men can get breast cancer too. It’s very rare – there are about 370 men diagnosed each year in the UK, compared with around 48,400 cases of breast cancer in women. That’s about one man for every 130 women diagnosed. The symptoms are very similar and it is treated in a similar way. The risk of getting breast cancer increases with age and most diagnoses occur in men between 60 and 70. There are other groups at risk however, such as men with high oestrogen, which is occurs in those who are heavily overweight or have chronic liver conditions, amongst other things. Luckily there is plenty of information available if you look for it. So be aware!

My final manicure is another simple dotticure:

British Nail Bloggers Do BCAM: Day 4

Welcome to another day of pink nails! This week has been about raising awareness of breast cancer and I’ve been posting little bits of information each day. Today I’d like to point your attention to a few breast cancer charities in the UK. Giving money is a really practical way that you can help combat cancer, because it supports the people doing the research into cure and prevention.

I’ve been getting most of my stats from Breast Cancer Campaign this week. As well as information, their website includes campaigns that you can get involved with and a bunch of cool pink stationery, all of which helps them fund important research. The other charity you may not have heard of – Breakthrough Breast Cancer. I gave money to them every month for several years after I spoke to someone on the street in Bath – they’re less well heard of because they believe in spending more money on research and less on promoting themselves. That’s the kind of charity I tend to get behind. As well as the campaign stuff you can also choose to do something sponsored for them – any budding athletes out there?

I am totally nuts about today’s manicure. Possibly my favourite manicure to date, ever.

British Nail Bloggers Do BCAM: Day 3

Happy Hump-day everyone! Where is the week going? It’ll be the weekend again before you know it!

Today is Day 3 of the British Nail Bloggers BCAM Manicure Mini-Challenge.

The biggest risk factor for breast cancer, after gender, is increasing age – approximately 81% of breast cancers occur in women over the age of 50. This doesn’t mean that us younger folks won’t get it, but it does mean you should be especially vigilant if you’re over 50! I found this bit of info quite interesting – breast cancer can run in families, but fewer than 10 per cent of cases are as a result of an inherited faulty gene. So you won’t necessarily get it just because someone else in the family did.

Here is my manicure!

British Nail Bloggers Do BCAM: Day 2

Afternoon! Today I bring you some more pink nails inspired by Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

One woman in eight will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, but there’s good news: Over 80% of women with breast cancer are still alive five years after diagnosis. Just 40 years ago, the five year survival rate for breast cancer was around 50 per cent. That’s major! So be breast aware!

Today’s nails are Pink and Punky – who says pink has to be soft and girly? We can be hard and still feminine too!

British Nail Bloggers Do BCAM: Day 1

Recently I’ve joined up to the British Nail Bloggers facebook group and a bunch of us decided that this week we’ll post pink manicures to promote Breast Cancer Awareness month. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer – around 50,000 women and 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. With our modern technology we’re surrounded by the tools to fix this – but you’ve gotta get to the doctor first! I had a scare last year where I thought I found a lump in my breast. It turns out that as you age your breasts naturally start to get a bit lumpy and that’s particularly true at certain times of the month. Getting mine checked was absolutely the right thing to do – now I know my breasts better. The moral of this story is make sure you know your breasts, so that if something does act up you’ll spot it!

Now for today’s nails:
